Crane Field Golf Course will be closing for the season in November 20th. Head on out this weekend to ensure you have a chance to golf there before we shut the gates for maintenance and turf recovery.

If you want to buy some gift cards or merchandise for Christmas gifts, stop by the Crane Field clubhouse before the 20th of November. Otherwise you can order cards online, visit the Crane Field Golf kiosk on the main level of Layton Hills Mall, or visit Remuda clubhouse in Farr west which will be open until December 24th.

In 2012 look for new and exciting things from Crane Field next season. We will be readying the front nine for play, adding features on the course, building some maintenance facilities, and socking the shop for next season. It's going to be a blast!

Remuda Halloween Monster Scramble

Saturday morning, October 29th, Remuda hosted a Haunted 4-monster tournament on the course. Over ninety golfers in full costume showed up for the spooky fun.

Each hole had a different theme and challenge. They included "Spider's Web" where players had to hit over the net to reach the pin. "Labyrinth" required golf carts to wind through a maze on the way to the hole. "Golfer's Graveyard" consisted of many obstacles planted on the green such as broken clubs, tombstones, and skeleton bones.

On other holes players had to discover new golf skills requiring them to tee off from a seated position, spot their golf ball in a batch of a hundred others, or putt with a six iron. There were a lot of smiles, a photo booth, amazing halloween cake, food, and lots of raffle prizes given out. "It was an impressive show of Halloween spirit. Who would have thought a morning Halloween event could be so fun!" -Chad Pauling, N. Ogden.

Morning Frost

Thecourse is covered with frost for the first few hours of each morning this time of year. While beautiful, frost can actually pose asignificant problem if not avoided properly. People walking and machines being driven onfrosty turf causes serious damage or turf kill off.

Itis imperative that pets, foot traffic, and machines stay off all of the golf course turf as long asthe frost is visible (usually until 9 or 10 AM). Golfers, whether walking or riding, will notbe permitted to golf nor will the maintenance staff be allowed to work on thegolf course until the frost has dissipated.

Thanks for your patience when it comes to waiting for the melt off, it will keep the turf inexcellent condition!

It’s time to aerify thegolf course! To have healthy, vigorous and durable turf most of the time one has to toleratecultural practices that do temporarilyaffect the playability of the turf. Someof these very necessary cultural practices include aerification, topdressing,verti-cutting, over-seeding, scheduled mowing & irrigation, slicing,etc.

Golfers by and largeloathe this necessary cultural practice because it generally leads toinconsistent putting surfaces on greens and/or cores and holes that interferewith lies on the fairways and rough. Superintendents go to great lengths to reduce the impact aerification has onthe playability of the golf course.

Golf for the dogs.

This Saturday Remuda golf course (Farr West) hosted a charity tournament for police dogs. Jackie McKowen-Rose (Roy) spearheaded the event with much help from volunteers and donors. She was inspired to raise money for K9 body armor after Koda, a Midvale K9 officer was killed in action.

Jackie petitioned the Utah congress with the help of Richard Greenwood (R-Roy). Earlier this year House Bill 177, sponsored by Rep. Greenwood, was enacted by the legislature to enable citizens to donate to a state fund for the purchase of protective armor for all Utah's K9 officers. (Look for a donation line on your next 2012 tax form.)

The 1st Annual Golf For K9s Tournament aimed to raise awareness of the fund and contribute proceeds to get the fund started. The annual goal for the fund is $30,000. In attendance were two K9 units, Representative Greenwood, and many compassionate donors and participants.

K9 Body armor costs $1,200 per jacket.

Alan Christiansen of Farr West golfed 70 holes of golf on his 70th birthday! Monday July 25th was Alan's birthday. He teed off from the number one tee of Remuda Golf Course at 6:00 a.m. to complete the feat. He re-rounded the course over and over until he finished. That meant close to an average of 6-10 minutes per hole to finish with daylight left over. Quite an endeavor in the heat of July, even for a 27 year-old. Thanks for inspiring the rest of us Alan!

Farr West Scramble Winners

Congratulations winners of the Farr West City Freedom Festival 4-Man Scramble:

The team Stephen Chugg, Dylan Chugg, Matt Chugg, and Nate Chugg of Farr West scored 56 on 18 holes at Remuda Golf Course. Each of you will be awarded a $25 gift card to our golf shop in addition to prizes awarded last night at the festival.

Farr West Freedom Days Scramble this week!

Play with your foursome THIS THURSDAY, FRIDAY, or SATURDAY. 18 Hole, 4-person Scramble (must use 2 drives per golfer). Fee includes cart $36 June 30 & July 1, $40 on July 2. Men play from black tees, women from yellow.

Call for available tee times, (801)731-7200. Leave score card at front desk when done. Low gross First place team will receive $75, Second place team: $50, and Third place team: $25. Prizes will be awarded at the awards ceremony on the 4th of July. (Plus Remuda will award $25 gift cards for first place team.) See you there!

The woman's association calendar has been modified slightly for the rest of the season. The front and back schedule has been synchronized with the men's association so couples may play together. Play for women is any time Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Here is a link to the updated calendar.

Al Haag of Farr West, already the course record holder and club champion at Remuda Golf Course, broke his best score today with a 58 on eighteen holes. Four eagles in one round!14 under par! Pretty impressive, and definitely the first one to turn in a documented scorecard that low out here. Who knows what the lowest documented score in Utah is?

If you or your workplace would like to donate to the Remuda Subdivision BBQ , or be involved in any way, please contact Zach at the clubhouse 801-731-7200.

This is a great opportunity for displaying promotional signs and giving out flyers, logo merchandise and coupons for your business. There are close to 600 households in the subdivision. In exchange we are looking for prize donations for the raffle drawing or goodies and activities for the kids. Anything that will help us host fun and social activity for the neighbors is welcome. The event is happening evening of Saturday June 11th. Hope you can make it!

Women's Association started April 19. The calendar of events is on the side of the fridge on online www.remudagolf.com. It is a fun nine hole game each week. UGA Handicap NOT required. The pot is $3 plus greens fee. Play on Tuesday or Wednesday. Scorecards should be attested and turned in to the front desk. Invite your friends and neighbors. Scores will be posted on our news blog, Facebook, and at the clubhouse. Winnings will be credited to you prize card.

Saturday June 11th is when we have decided to plan a huge BBQ and tournament event. We are going to have an 18 hole tournament with prizes and a BBQ social at 5 pm ($3 hamburger plates, $1 for kids) and a big raffle drawing. All Remuda residents and their friends are invited!

The tournament golf will be 1/2 price, as will range buckets the night of the event. Uinta Golf has been invited to bring golf equipment demos, and Rocky Mountain Turf products will be bringing out their lineup of sporty new golf carts. Other local businesses have also been contacted to donate prizes and promotions and otherwise participate in the festivities.

Remuda residents, look for our flyers on your front porch as the event draws nearer. We will have additional details along with our sponsors promotions on the flyers. Bring your family and friends, and even your co-workers. Our BBQ could double as a social event for your family reunion or workplace. Let us know if you have any great suggestions. Hope you can be there!

One way of making sure your game is improving is to be using the proper size clubs for your stature and swing speed. Stop on by before or after your golf round this Saturday. We are still accepting sign-ups for Men's and Women's associations this season. Membership is $20 like last year, weekly play is $6/week for men, and $3/week for women. We are still having weekly 9-hole events and monthly 18 hole tournaments. A change from last season, you can play in the 18 hole tournaments any time during the day now.

We will be using Facebook and our blog to post scores this season. Both are free to use if you have a computer or a smart phone. We will also keep posting scores in the clubhouse and with the Ogden Standard Examiner.

For those of you who don't know, the UGA handicap computer software has changed this season, but the handicap calculations are still the same. We are using the new software to calculate our scores. We will input the scorecards for you when you turn them in to us.

Come out and see us. Weekly play is now going forth, come rain or shine!
